Licensing and negotiating: exploring unfamiliar ground

Abstract

Over the last decade the scene in which librarians have had to operate has completely changed. Librarians have migrated from book-buyers to licence- negotiators, from circulation experts to providers of digital services. This chapter tries to map some of the fields that they have entered and to identify some of the obstacles they can encounter.
