Exploring HRM Practices in the Libyan Hospitality Sector: A Systematic Review of Global Trends and Local Challenges

Abstract

This paper explores the shifting dynamics of Human Resource Management (HRM) practices within the hospitality sector, especially in the Libyan context. Using the systematic literature review (SLR) method, it synthesizes 20 recent articles from a peer-reviewed database that explore key trends of HRM, including green HRM, e-HRM, employee engagement, and sustainable HR practices within the hospitality industry. The review outlines considerable lacunae in the literature, especially with regard to HRM practices relevant to Libya's hospitality sector, while at the same time indicating global emerging trends that have received less attention in this region. Key findings of the literature review are the greater significance attached to green HRM in terms of ensuring sustainability; the increased implementation of e-HRM due to digitalization to further facilitate organizational efficiency; and employee engagement as central in driving organizational outcomes. Despite the global shift towards sustainability and digital transformation, the Libyan hospitality industry faces unique challenges, including limited technological infrastructure and cultural factors, which hinder the widespread adoption of these practices. The contribution of this paper lies in the identification of important research gaps and identification of areas for future studies regarding integrating green HRM and e-HRM practices to improve employees' satisfaction, organizational commitment, and overall performance within the Libyan hospitality context.
