Abstract

A hard tick was isolated from the skin mucous membrane of the anus of a 72 yr old forestry farmer and was identified as A. testudinarium Koch, 1844. Hosts of this species are wildboars, monkeys, rabbits and wild birds. Previously, 6 cases of human infestation by A. testudinarium have been reported in Japan. In 3 cases infestation was in the anal area.
