On Homeomorphisms of a 3-Dimensional Handlebody

Abstract

By a 3-dimensional handlebody V n of genus n, we mean an oriented 3-manifold which is a disk-sum of n copies of D 2 X S 1 , where D 2 is the unit disk and S 1 is the boundary ∂D 2 ; and by a surface F n of genus n we mean the oriented boundary surface ∂ V n .
