Abstract
The available scientific evidence confirms that people with habitual physical activity patterns are less likely to develop health problems. The physical fitness is a biomarker of overall health status. The relationship between physical activity and physical fitness in young people shows contradictory results. The methodology of this bibliographic review was based on the search, analysis and interpretation of available scientific literature on the relationship between health, physical exercise and physical condition. The aims were: 1) to examine the main indicators of physical fitness in young people; 2) to base theoretically the importance of physical fitness and physical activity for health; 3) synthesize the criteria of prescription of physical exercise for health; 4) clarify the relationship between physical activity and physical fitness in young people. The results showed that aerobic capacity, strength and adiposity are the main indicators of physical fitness-health. The current prescription criteria for physical exercise are effective. In conclusion, although there’s no consensus on the relationship between physical exercise and physical fitness in young people, is undeniable the need to do regular physical activity to have good health.
