Abstract

The membrane-based method is one of the most widely applied and commercially proven desalination technologies in recent years. Electrodialysis (ED) is one of the common membrane technologies used for water desalination. This review paper aims to provide the fundamental concept of electrodialysis and its application in water desalination. The advantages, limitations, challenges, and future trends of electrodialysis have been discussed and delineated.Keywords: electrodialysis, reversal, fouling, membranes
