Abstract

Coal mining operations carried out in South Sumatra are in Muara Enim Regency covering an area of 145,213 ha for the mining area. The ongoing mining process can affect the surrounding environment, especially the river flow that collects runoff water from the mine. The affected rivers in Muara Enim Regency are the Lawai River and the Kiahan River. The wastewater was analyzed using the ANOVA Test with data management using the SPSS program, the parameters tested were pH, TSS, Fe, and Mn. Calculation of carrying capacity and capacity using the mass balance method. The results of the research obtained in the Lawai River that the pollutant load of Fe, and Mn in the upstream part of the river exceeds the capacity in the 2019-2020 rainy season, with Mn in the dry season also exceeding the capacity in 2019. In the upper part of the Kiahan River, the pollutant load of Fe exceeds the quality standard in the dry season and Mn exceeds the quality standard in the rainy season (2019-2020). Rivers with downstream Fe and Mn pollutant loads have exceeded their carrying capacity in 2019-2020 in both seasons. Pollution control strategy in Muara Enim Regency by reducing the concentration of pollutant loads that exceed the capacity, improving the wastewater management system with technical calculations and implementing technical considerations for water management, and increasing supervision of guidance according to SOPs and regulations applicable to business activities that contribute to water quality river.
