Abstract

The current method for modelling magnetic core coils involves the use of an ohmic resistance connected in parallel to the ideal inductance to describe the related hysteresis and eddy-current losses. For systems with significant losses, however, this model only provides very insufficient results. The authors therefore examine an approach based on fractional derivatives. Using measuring results in the time and frequency domain, it is demonstrated that the related model is excellently suitable to describe the coils. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
