Abstract
An analysis of the data from seven families of full-sibs reveals no evidence that the incompatibility genes, S and Z, are linked. In the absence of a knowledge of the parental genotypes it is necessary to adopt a special procedure of classifying the progenies in order to be able to perform tests for linkage. The application of this procedure to situations concerning traits other than self-incompatibility is discussed and a simple crossing-scheme which avoids this problem is given.
