Abstract

Building acceptable sentences with correct grammar frequently becomes a hindrance for students. Equipping them with adequate knowledge to write a good sentence is pivotal including grammatical knowledge. This present research aims at improving students' grammatical mastery in sentence building through mistake buster technique. Classroom action research was employed in this research. The action was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle comprised of four stages namely planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The participants were one class of second semester college students consisting of 30 students. Observation and test were utilized to collect the data. The data was validated using technique and data source triangulation. The findings reveal that the students' grammar scores increase significantly from cycle I to II (from 59,81 in cycle I to 76,81 in cycle II). In addition to that, this technique contributes to promote students' engagement in learning. To conclude, mistake buster technique is able to enhance students' grammatical mastery sentence building and students' engagement in learning. In respect to the findings, this technique is substantially recommended as an alternative technique to deliver grammatical material to students.
