Abstract

Hydroxyethyl starch solutions with slow degradation can affect hemostasis mainly by decreasing coagulation factor VIII, von Willebrand factor, and platelet reactivity. Rapidly degradable hydroxyethyl starch solutions have minimal influence, if any, on hemostasis.
