Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to clarify the course of growth in normal ribs and to study the changes occurring in the growth processes of the ribs of animals during the progression and the spontaneous correction of an experimentally provoked scoliotic curve. The process of longitudinal growth of normal ribs of pigs was studied by the metal marking method. The processes of apposition and resorption of bone associated with the growth in width and the remodelling of the ribs during growth were studied by the tetracycline method. © 1973, Informa UK Ltd.
