Abstract
This book on phenotypic plasticity is the first in a new series called Syntheses in Ecology and Evolution. This monograph takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding phenotypic plasticity, which is the property of a given genotype to produce different phenotypes under specific environmental conditions. The book brings together insights from ecological genetics, developmental biology, molecular biology, and evolutionary theory to advance understanding of how nature (genotype) and nurture (environment) interact to produce complex organisms. The eleven chapters are illustrated with diagrams, graphs, and tables. An author index and a subject index are provided. This book should be of interest to both students and professionals in evolutionary biology, biology, ecology, and genetics.
