Evaluation of a community action for nutrition (CAN) project in tribal Maharashtra

Abstract

Undernutrition among under-five tribal children remains a pressing issue, and this paper evaluates a Community Action for Nutrition (CAN) project. The anthropometry databases maintained by the government and non-governmental partners were used. Process indicators included regularity of anthropometry, including that among those detected with acute malnutrition. Outcome indicators included a change in the prevalence of acute malnutrition. The findings show that the follow-up of children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) improved, and the prevalence of acute malnutrition reduced. We conclude that the Community Action for Nutrition improved the state’s nutrition intervention.
