Abstract

Milan Zelený, in a number of papers, proposed and developed specially structured LP model called De Novo Programming. This approach uses, in an essential way, a transformation of the original problem to continuous knapsack problem, and it concerns only models with capacity constraints and some implicit assumptions about the problem data. Here we extend this methodology to cases involving not only capacity constraints but also requirement and balance constraints. This extension is based on the methodology of Zelený and uses some principles of the STEM methods. We present an example of an adaptation of De Novo approach for models with both capacity, requirement and balance constraints.
