Abstract

A new experimental system of light scattering was developed to measure the propagation of the thermal surface-tension wave (ripplon) on a liquid surface. The upper limit of the measurement is 106 m-1 in wave number which is one decade higher than the conventional light scattering method. Frequency and damping constant measured for ethanol at the wave number range k:» 105m-1 show an anomalous dispersion which cannot be explained by a classical hydrodynamic theory. © 1990 The Japan Society of Applied Physics.
