Abstract

Musical parts or some elements there were always present in the theatrical school celebrations. But from the onset of musical theater in Italy and its acceptance in the courts, the same was introduced in student celebrations throughout the wide Hispanic world from the seventeenth century on. In this essay, after a brief introduction, those events are collected and classified by genre (opera, oratorio, operetta or zarzuela, musical drama, royal festival), and special references given to the performance of'El sacro nombre de Augusto', Seville, 1749.
