Abstract

Despite the proliferation of studies on chatbots in education, no studies have explored using chatbot-human interactions to design mentorship programs. This study introduces The Scholarlee 1.0 Project, an online prototype with three chatbots and a website. This tool was developed in October 2022 and leverages chatbot and human interactions to support mentorship design planning for scholarly communication. An initial usability evaluation in December 2022 informed its redesign. It was followed by a second evaluation in December 2023 by fourteen Caribbean scholars who provided positive feedback and identified areas for improvement. This paper details the development of the prototype, highlights key insights gained from the second evaluation and offers recommendations for further development. The study aims to inspire scholars, primarily in the Caribbean, to adopt chatbot-driven innovations in mentorship design and demonstrate how human-AI collaborations can produce educational tools tailored to users’ contextual needs.
