Abstract

This chapter uses a public health perspective to provide an overview of the key determinants and shared pathways for the causes of non-communicable diseases and common mental disorders and their outcomes. Current understandings about their co-occurrence, prevention and control will be discussed, as well as the implications of emerging frameworks that target modifiable risk factors. We will conclude by outlining some of the issues and challenges associated with wide-scale implementation and scale-up of public health interventions that target the prevention and control of these conditions when they co-occur in different community settings.
