Abstract

The diffusion coefficient of oxygen in α-titanium was measured in the range 460°-700°C, by means of nuclear microanalysis from the reaction 16O(d,p)170*. A new application of this method allows the determination of a complete diffusion profile, along about 2 μm, from a single proton spectrum. The results provide a value of diffusion coefficient consistent with a bulk diffusion process, with an activation energy of 48 kcal/mol, over the temperature range from 200° to 950°C. © 1983, The Electrochemical Society, Inc.
