Abstract
Aim: to characterize the patients’ profile with hypertensive crisis attended in a hospital emergency room. Method: quantitative, descriptive research with secondary data collection on service bulletins and electronic register of patients admitted with hypertensive crisis on the period from January to May 2013. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: the association between the stage of hypertension and age shows that the highest percentage of subjects under 40 years old (44.6%) had stage I hypertension, ages between 40 and 59 stage II (34.6%), and those ages higher than 60 years old, stage III (48.0%). Conclusion: this study identified the need to create new strategies to improve treatment adherence for hypertension and user empowerment
