Abstract
Breakwaters are known as one of the coastal protection structures against erosion, abrasion, and protection of the port area from wave disturbances. The breakwater can reduce wave height by breaking the wave through the pores of the constituent rock. This paper aims to conduct a literature review on the types and functions of breakwaters, as well as the application of breakwaters in Indonesia. In this paper, 2 (two) types of breakwaters are discussed: submerged breakwater, and detached breakwater. An alternative solution is proposed, a floating breakwater.
