Abstract

The article probes the interfaces between the concepts of urban health and environmental quality by presenting conceptual frameworks and focusing on elements that make urban environment qualit y a determinant of health. T hen, it addresses the relations between globalization and world urbanization; and presents the example case of Brazilian urbanization and some of its most striking features with a significant impact on urban health: urban sprawl, agglomeration diseconomies , and the effects of globalized virtual communication
