The Relationship of Semen Production to Sexual Excitement of Dairy Bulls

Abstract

In two experiments with 11 bulls each, restraining the bulls to induce sexual excitement was accompanied by highly significant (P < 0.01) increases in semen volume per ejaculate and in numbers of spermatozoa per milliliter of semen. The number of motile spermatozoa per ejaculate was 41 per cent greater (P < 0.01). These results emphasize the practical importance of procedures designed to induce and control sexual excitement in dairy bulls at the time of semen collection. © 1951, American Dairy Science Association.
