Abstract
The delafossite (ABO 2) structure consists of close-packed double layers of edge-sharing BO 6 octahedra with monovalent A ions positioned between the layers. The first electrochemical study of silver ferrite (AgFeO 2) is presented, establishing the promise of this material for future energy storage applications. This encompasses the first use of a bimetallic delafossite structured material in a lithium-based battery, investigation of rechargeability for secondary battery use. The data support that the delafossite family of compounds is worthy of study as secondary battery materials. © 2011 The Electrochemical Society.
