Abstract
Parents of 18 children who died of cancer in the last five years were interviewed. The mean duration of terminal care was 5.6 weeks, the median being two weeks. Most children died peacefully at home after a brief but obvious period of deterioration. More counselling is needed for families in this situation. © 1985, British Medical Journal Publishing Group.
