Abstract

Alcohol is intimately associated with all types of trauma. It is important as a causal factor, and its usage alters the body's usual physiologic responses to injury. Emergency physicians have a unique opportunity not only to treat the acute traumatic event but to ensure that the patient has the opportunity for detoxication and rehabilitation.
