Abstract

The Economics of Happiness is an interdisciplinary and growing area that introduces subjective concepts to economic analysis. A question explored in the empirical literature refers to the relationship between happiness and social capital. However, studies related to the theme are heterogeneous due to the difficulty of defining a universal concept for social capital. Thus, the present study analyse this relationship, including three dimensions of social capital: trust, norms and interpersonal networks. Based on data from the World Values Survey and the estimation of an Ordered Probit model, a positive relationship was found between social capital and subjective well-being.
