Abstract
The aim of this paper is to study the profile and motivations of tourists visiting a city a World Heritage Site, the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The methodology used in the research involved conducting fieldwork based on surveys of tourists at the time who were visiting the city. The main results show the important educational level of respondents tourists, the diversity of countries of origin and the high degree of fidelity to this destination. The main practical application of this research is to help understand the sociodemographic characteristics of tourists visiting the city and its motivations in order to conceive tourist and cultural products that best meet the needs of tourists and at the same time, is compatible sustainable management of this material heritage. This paper presents one of the first studies to analyze the relationship between tourism and the Heritage Site cities in Latin America, which can serve as reference for future research in this field and in this geographic area.
