Abstract
Cancer is characterized by cell growth uncontrolled in tissue and doesn't recognize apoptosis. Cheral® is an herbal medicinal product that contains meniran (Phyllanthus niruri) and turmeric (Curcuma longa). Those herbals have been known to contain some active compounds which have the pharmacological function, such as anticancer. Therefore, this study aims to identify Cheral® potential in inducing apoptosis in T47D breast cancer cells line as well as to describe their mechanism to induce apoptosis by in vitro and bioinformatic analysis. For the in vitro study, AnnexinV/PI dye was used and then analyzed using flow cytometry for apoptosis assay. Bioinformatic analysis was conducted for exploring mechanism Cheral® to induce apoptosis. The result from apoptosis assay showed that the Cheral® could induce apoptosis in T47D cells. Further investigation by bioinformatics indicated that some active compounds in Cheral® helped to regulate several proteins that involve in the apoptosis process. It is concluded that the Cheral® could have the potential as an anticancer in T47D cells through their ability to induce apoptosis. Further research regarding proteins related to such apoptosis process may prove necessary.
