Abstract

Standard words are words in Indonesian that are in accordance with predetermined linguistic rules. Linguistic rules in standard words can contain several things including spelling, standard grammar, and general dictionary words. This study aims to determine how the use of standard and non-standard words among students. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The research subjects used were students of the State University of Medan in the Regular A class 2019 Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education. The results of this study are that there are already many students of Medan State University in Regular A class 2019 Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education who understand standard and non-standard words and only a few do not understand standard and non-standard language.
