Abstract

Hospital infections or healthcare-associated infections (HAI) occurs in patients under medical or surgical care. They are among the major complication of modern medical therapy due to the advanced age of patients, increased number of people with altered immune system, increased utilization of invasive devices such as catheters and ventilators, and often inappropriate use of antimicrobial therapy. Multidisciplinary infection control committee and infection control team are apparently common in European hospitals as well as in our country. Infection control nurse has an important role in the prevention and control of HAI.
