Abstract
Background: An accurate comprehension of the causes of sick leaves of public employees is a relevant management tool in occupational health, because it helps understanding health and disease, and thus contributes to the development of prevention and health promotion policies. Objectives: To analyze indicators of absenteeism relative to municipal employees in Curitiba. Methods: The present study had resource to the descriptive time series method and a quantitative approach. The sample comprised civil servants under a single legal frame in Curitiba with missed work due to sick leaves from 2015 to 2015. Results: The total number of days off work was 23, on average, according to medical reports. The rate of absenteeism decreased from 5.24% (2010) to 4.88% (2015), when the main reasons or sick leaves corresponded to groups CID M, F and S. Conclusion: The high rates of sick leaves point to a public organization in demand of attention. The results of the present study might help managers in the formulation of preventive measures and development of programs, as well as serve as starting point for actions aiming at improving the management of absenteeism.
