Abstract

The article discusses the use of online social networking Web sites by libraries to keep in touch with patrons and other libraries in the U.S. The author focuses on two sites, MySpace and Facebook. Libraries using MySpace use it to post messages about events and collections in the blog feature of the site, announce services offered and address Internet safety. Since Facebook was created as a social network for college students, universities took advantage of this opportunity and used it to communicate with their students.
