The Relationship between Negative Parenting and Delinquent Behavior in Children at the Special Children's Development Institution for Grade 1 Medan: A Literature Study

Abstract

Neglectful parenting is often the cause ofthe emergence of delinquent behavior in children who are in the Child Special Development Institution (LPKA). This study aims to analyze the effect of neglectful parenting on delinquent behavior in foster children at LPKA Class 1 Medan, using an attachment theory approach. Neglectful parenting that ignores children's physical, emotional, and psychological needs has been shown to significantly contribute to the emergence of delinquent behavior, including aggressiveness, antisocial tendencies, and involvement in criminal acts. Social and economic environmental factors also exacerbate this condition, where children who grow up in a less supportive environment are more prone to engage in deviant behavior. This study confirms the importance of the family's role in creating secure emotional attachments and providing consistent attention to prevent children from falling into negative behaviors. A warm and responsive parenting pattern not only provides a sense of emotional security but also forms the basis for social development emotional security but also forms the basis for children's social, moral and intellectual development.
