Abstract

This paper presents the design and development of a Carbon Monoxide (CO) gas detector in vehicles. If any CO gas leakage in the vehicles it will be detected by MQ7 that is used as gas sensor for this project. To make CO Smart Detector operate systematically, Arduino Uno is used as a microcontroller to control the whole system for this project. It will automatically alert the user inside the vehicles by triggering a warning to the user using LED, buzzer and LCD display as an indicator. Furthermore, exhaust fan is used to extract out the polluted air from the vehicle. Green, yellow and red LED will be turned on automatically at certain level of CO concentration. Green LED will be turned on at safe condition. Meanwhile, yellow LED and buzzer with beep sound will be turned on automatically at alert condition. The red LED will be turned on when the MQ7 sensor senses the dangerous level of CO concentration. Buzzer will alert user with continuous sound and fan will be turned on manually by a switch or automatically if the need arises to extract out the air inside the vehicle.
