Abstract

One of the sosial problems facing Indonesia is poverty. Efforts to overcome poverty, among others, can be done through job creation. Tourism development, is seen as the right strategy to accelerate employment growth and poverty reduction. International donor agencies and international non-governmental organizations recognize that tourism as an industri has succeeded in accelerating economic development and human development, and has succeeded in reducing rural poverty rates in developing countries. Various studies in several developing countries, such as Namibia, Costa Rica and Tanzania also show that tourism development has proven to be able to accelerate economic growth and provide employment, increase in income, living standards and stimulate other production sektors. Community-Based Tourism (CBT) is the right strategy in the development of tourism that benefits the community. Indonesia has great potential to develop tourism, especially natural and cultural tourism, which can be used as capital in an effort to reduce poverty. This paper aims to explain conceptually about the links between tourism development, employment growth, and poverty alleviation efforts.
