Abstract

Ostwald ripening was observed in the process of coalescence of TiN particles. The main factors controlling the austenite grain size (R) were the volume fraction (f) and the mean size of TiN particles (r) such taht R equals K multiplied by (times) (r vertical f), where the (r vertical f) is the mean distance of TiN particles. This experimentally obtained relationship was theoretically substantiated by a simple model that takes both the effect of distribution of TiN precipitate particles and the nature of the particles into consideration.
