Abstract
Estrogen receptor-associated receptor α (ERRα) is an orphan nuclear receptor that lacks corresponding ligands. ERRα recruits co-regulators to regulate gene transcription and plays an important role in human physiological functions. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) is also a nuclear receptor that regulates the expression of target genes via a ligand-dependent mechanism, thereby participating in a series of physiological processes. Both ERRα and PPARγ are involved in the process of energy metabolism and tumorigen- esis. In the present review, a concise overview of the important roles governed by ERRα and PPARγ in metabolism and their association with various disease are provided.
