Abstract
This paper refers to the origin, concept and dimensions study of social capital within the social sciences as well as its relationship with development. Include firstly, a his-torical literature review of the term social capital in order to locate its conception and thus identify the key elements in its evolution has led to discussion of sociological conceptualization. On the other hand, the literature reviews the main arguments that support the close relationship of social capital development from the perspective of the networks of formal and informal interaction between individuals or organizations will promote the development. Similarly, we review some methodological proposals in terms of dimensions comprising the social capital and indicators from which can be measured and evaluated as a public policy strategy that seeks to promote social capital as a source of regional development.
