Abstract

A thin foil electron microscopical examination has been made of the various morphologies of M23C6 precipitates formed in an austenite matrix. This includes precipitation on dislocations, as stringers, as laths and at non-coherent twin boundaries. The mechanism of formation-each of these types has been described-the shape and crystallography of the M23C6 particles have been analysed and the nature of the carbide-austenite interface has been discussed. © 1967.
