Digital transformation and co-existence of Malay culture in the new media era

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 5.0 encouraged technological innovation, which also influenced the transformation of Malay culture into digital formats and social media. This research aims to analyze the coexistence, tolerance, and revitalization of Malay culture in the new media era. The focus of the study is directed at the representation of Malay culture that interacts in harmony, cultural adaptation to social media platforms, and the revitalization of Malay art and culture. The research method uses qualitative analysis of Facebook, blog, Instagram, YouTube, and website content collected through desk review and categorized based on specific mapping. The data was then analyzed in a qualitative descriptive manner by including footage from social media. The results of the study show that the existence, tolerance, and revitalization of Malay culture in new media trigger significant socio-cultural changes, so cultural redefinition is needed along with technological developments. This transformation has an impact on digital representation, cultural developments on social media, and people’s lives in general.
