Abstract

Pure Fe3Si is formed by the reaction of an iron-wire with SiCl4-vapor at a reaction temperature of 1000°C and a SiCl 4-pressure of 2 bar. Remarkable is the fact that the outer shape of the used iron wire has not been changed during the reaction. The crystal structure of Fe3Si was determined using single crystal methods. Fe3Si crystallizes in the space group Fm3m. The lattice parameters depend on the composition.
