Abstract
Comments on an article by M. M. Mello and N. A. Messing (see record [rid]2011-23313-004[/rid]). In their article regarding restrictions on the use of prescribing data for drug promotion, Mello and Messing call into question the AMA's commitment on the basis of unfounded speculation that ignores the facts. Despite national publicity for the Physician Data Restriction Program (PDRP), physician awareness of the program has little effect on enrollment rates. The AMA continues to actively promote the PDRP so that all physicians can exercise choice regarding whether they wish to have their prescription data available to third parties.
