Abstract
This article deals with the way the software OLAS was created. OLAS allows you to know the characteristics of the incoming waves to the Colombian coast (along the Caribbean and Pacific coasts) specially matters related with mean regimes, both scalar and directional, it also allows the user to know the waves at deep waters and at a specified depth close to the coast along with other parameters such as potential Sediment transport rate and morfodinamical stage of a beach. It explains from where the data was taken from, the limitations of visual waves data and the importance of it, in cases such us Colombia, where there is no observational wave data system implemented, therefore visual data constitute the only source of information. The article explains how the calculations of some parameters are conducted and review the most popular transference functions in the literature to transform visual wave period and heights into significant heights and peak periods.
