Abstract

The article explores diaconical professionalism as a quality of social service especially in dealing with “otherness.” By reflecting on the consequences of inclusion in its twofold orientation toward the individual and toward community, the author stresses the need for reflection and a corporate culture supporting constant reflection of professional action. In addition, the author discusses theological aspects of community orientation of congregations and raises further research questions.
