Abstract
Child-sensitive social protection (CSSP) offers both a conceptual framework and guiding principles in support of social protection that maximises positive impacts and minimises potential negative effects on children. In this section, we explain the importance of a child focus within social protection, elaborate the concepts and principles underpinning CSSP, clarify the interface between social protection and child protection, and discuss the degree of child-sensitivity of a relatively new wave of interventions, namely ‘cash plus’ and ‘graduation’ programmes.
