Abstract
This introductory chapter summarizes the institutional history of IAMCR from its establishment in 1957, highlighting the role of UNESCO and its founding members and the association’s growth. Over six decades, the aims and scope of the association have remained focused on the creation of a global forum where researchers and others addressing media and communication problems can meet and exchange information about their work.
