Abstract

This article considers four aspects of Modernism: (1) The division of the movement in two periods in the 1920s, corresponding to two ways of conceiving modernization; (2) In the second period, this article distinguishes two different definitions of the national identity; (3) The place of writer Graça Aranha in Modernism is outlined; (4) The limits of Modernism is the theme discussed in the last part of the article
