Abstract

Highlights Effects of tool geometry on machining characteristics of soft-brittle materials are reviewed. The differences in material behaviors between soft- and hard-brittle materials are identified. The surface formation mechanisms for various processing methods are compared. The optimal tool geometries and parameters for different machining methods are analyzed. Challenges, feasibility, and future perspectives in this area are outlined.
